Office of the 6th Battalion Fire Chief
The Office of the Central Battalion Fire Chief was established on December 9, 1925 and quartered with Engine Co. 2 and Rescue Squad 1 located at 719 12th Street N.W. The original chief's "buggy" assigned was a 1925 Jordan Roadster.
With the needs of an ever growing department at hand, the Central Battalion was disbanded on July 1, 1931 in order to form both the 6th and 7th Battalions. The 6th Battalion Fire Chief remained at Engine Co. 2 and now utilized a 1926 Peerless Roadster.
Once again the needs of the department required a realignment of battalions. So, in 1955, the Office of the 6th Battalion Chief left Engine Co. 2 on 12th Street and was relocated to the quarters of Engine Co. 16, Truck Co. 3 and the Office of the Firefighting Deputy Fire Chief located at 1018 13th Street N.W. where it remains to this day.
The Deputy Fire Chief of the Firefighting Division moved the new quarters of Engine Co. 2 located at 500 F Street N.W. on May 31, 1979.
Battalion boundaries have been realigned many times over the years as the needs of the department have warranted. Listed below are just a few examples of those assignments: |
